This course will provide the fundamentals required for strong and flexible backbends.
We will work with upper, middle back, strengthening the lumbar area, abdominals with deep awareness of the role of the glutes.
Back flexibility isn’t something only for naturally flexible people, if you do the right work correctly you can achieve more mobility and freedom in the spine.
We will deepen our understanding of the mechanics of effective, non harmful backbends and its relationship with the hip flexors, neck and shoulder mobility.
We will look at different aspects and skills such as lunges, “foot grab”, cobras and bridge variations. Proper preparation is key to approach backbending so a lot of emphasis will be on warm up, conditioning and specific flexibility exercises.
We will work towards poses like Natarajasana, Dhanurasana and King pigeon pose. We´ll improve your bridge technique, learning or refining your Drop Backs to bridge.
At the end of the course you will feel empowered with a new understanding, knowledge and technique that, with practice, will bring you closer to achieve your flexibility goals.
We will have 4 meetings of 1 hour long sessions. The classes will be fun and energetic, with variations and adaptations for all.
You will most benefit from the course if you can do already simple bridge and a forward fold, as the course isn’t aimed at complete beginners.

- 2 or more foam Yoga blocks
- Foam Roller
- A Stick (could be a broom stick, an umbrella…)
- A small weight (could be a water bottle)
- Medium resistance Elastic band
- Yoga Strap
- Swiss or Pilates yoga ball (optional if you don’t have it but recommended for some exercises)
